LIMA - Legal Issues in Museum Administration

Each spring since 1973, OGC co-sponsors a three-day course with the American Law Institute – Continuing Legal Education (ALI-CLE). The course is attended by museum administrators, trustees, and attorneys.

The Office of General Counsel invites you to attend the fifty-second annual Legal Issues in Museum Administration conference, to be offered both in-person in Cleveland, OH and virtually as a live webcast from May 1-3, 2024.

Why You Should Attend

Featuring a robust curriculum and networking receptions at world-class institutions, Legal Issues in Museum Administration 2024 is shaping up to be our best course yet! Year after year in-house counsel, outside counsel, museum directors, and nonprofit professionals gather at this annual course and walk away with strategic guidance and legal insights on the most pressing issues facing large and small institutions alike. The professional significance of this course is best described by recent attendees:

  • “One of the only annual courses I feel is worthwhile to attend in order to remain apprised of current issues related to museum administration.”
  • “Thank you very much. That was the best CLE I have ever attended. Not even close to anything else I remember attending in the past 31 years.”
  • “Always a fantastic conference with great networking opportunities and wonderful receptions, as well as very educational sessions.”

This year's program will feature two amazing receptions at venues guaranteed to captivate our Cleveland audience. These events will provide the perfect bookends to jam-packed days of collaborative learning. Reserve your seat today for this historic conference that is expected to sell out!

What You Will Learn

This year’s Legal Issues in Museum Administration 2024 conference will focus on how museums can best manage risks and identify opportunities in a rapidly changing landscape. We will explore opportunities and challenges involved in new technology like Artificial Intelligence, consider the impacts of climate deterioration and sustainability initiatives, and wrestle with changing donor expectations. As always, we will provide timely updates on ever-present legal issues, from key litigation to assessing developments in copyright and trademark, tax, and employment law. The steering committee is working on this year’s agenda.

Join us in 2024 in-person and tailor your learning experience by choosing the break-out sessions that best fit your interests and needs. And whether you attend in Cleveland or join us on the web, you’ll benefit from the thought-provoking panels and resources shared by our nationally recognized faculty.
